Scripture for Today Shalom Sabbat

Psalm 18:30

As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.Anyone that has read the Bible at all knows it speaks of people being possessed by “devil(s)” or “unclean spirits.” Christ and His disciples dealt with possessed people regularly and always cast the invading spirits out (Matt. 4:24; Mark 6:7, and many more….). As to how these spirits originated or became evil, the Bible is mostly silent. But there is a mention after the 40 days and nights of the flood. There is some indication they may be the spirits of the “sons of God” who took on flesh and came unto the “daughters of men” in Noah’s day and later died in the flood (Gen. 6:1-4), but there is no proof that is the case. Others suggest they are angels that chose to rebel with Lucifer (Isa. 14; Ezek 28) before man’s creation and subsequently became “devils,” but there is no clear proof of this either. Instead of speculating as to their origin, let’s look at what can be known; what the Scriptures do reveal.

Mark 5:1-20 is the definitive passage on demon possession and its effects in the Bible. Some of the details about demons the Bible reveals in this passage are:

1. Devils want to be near dead human bodies or tombs (vs. 2, 3, 5).
2. They can cause unusual strength (vs. 3-4).
3. They can make a person unreasonable or immune to sensible persuasion (vs. 4).
4. They cause excessive crying (vs. 5).
5. They cause sadistic and masochistic behavior (vs. 5).
6. They have an affinity for heights (vs. 5).
7. They recognize Christ as “the Son of God” and appeal to Him (vs. 6-7).
8. They know they deserve torment and dread it (vs. 6-7).
9. They have names (vs. 9).
10. More than one can possess the same body (vs. 9).
11. They desire to stay in the same geographical region or “country” (vs. 10).
12. They would rather indwell an animal body than none at all (vs. 12).
13. They can cause animals to kill themselves (vs. 13).
14. They desire to be in a body when it dies (vs. 13).
15. They have a desire for water (vs. 13).
Mark 9:17-29 gives us even more details about devils:

16. They can cause dumbness and deafness (vs. 17, 25).
17. They cause rabid animal like behavior (vs. 18).
18. They can indwell from childhood (vs. 21).
19. They cause suicidal behavior (vs. 22).
20. They resist leaving a body and violently “rent” it while leaving (vs. 26).
21. There are different kinds of devils. Some have more power than others (vs. 29).
22. Some can only be removed by prayer and fasting of believer (vs. 29).

Ephesians 6:12
states Satan has a hierarchy of “devils” in his kingdom, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Thus some devils have more power and authority than others.

In Daniel 10:13 (as well as Mark 9:29) there is an example of this. “The prince of the kingdom of Persia” withstood the angel sent to explain Daniel’s vision to him for 21 days. He could only break free when the angel Michael came and helped him overcome the powerful “prince.” The “prince” may have been Satan, but more likely he was a very powerful devil.

Place The Whole Armor of God – on you Eph 6:10-20

Pr 20:18Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.” A spiritual war is something we need to know more of to overcome things with God’s guidance and advice, through His Holy Spirit.

Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, it is against the dark spirit.

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Why Spiritual Armor?

Rom 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

Jer 46:3-4 (KJV) Click KJV for other Languages! Ye make ready buckler and shield, ye go forth to fight: Ye harness your horses, and set yourselves upon them: Ye set your salettes fast on, ye bring forth your spears, ye scour your swords, and put on your breastplates.

1 Cor 14:8 And also if the trumpet give an uncertain voice,|sound| who shall prepare himself to fight?|the battle|

Luke 21:36 Watch therefore continually and pray, that ye may scape{obtain grace to fly} all this that shall come. And that ye may stand before the son of man.

Mal 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming? Who shall be able to endure, when he appeareth? For he is like a goldsmith’s fire, and like washer’s soap. {Who shall endure in the day of his coming, or who shall stand to behold him? For he is as trying fire and as the herb that fullers scour withal.}

1 Cor 10:12-13 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall. There hath none other temptation taken you, |yet no temptation overtaken you| but such as followeth the nature of man. God is faithful, which shall not suffer you to be tempted above your strength: but shall in the midst of the temptation make a way to escape out. |that ye may bear it|

Jude 1:24 Unto him that is able to keep you, that ye fall not, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with joy, (at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ)

Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves to God, and resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

The Belt of Truth

Eph 6:14 Stand therefore and your loins gird about with verity, |truth| having on the breastplate of righteousness,

Isa 11:5 Righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, truth and faithfulness, the girding up of his reins. {And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, truth and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.}

Ex 12:11Of this manner shall ye eat it: with your loins girded, and shoes on your feet, and your staves in your hands. And ye shall eat it in haste, for it is the LORD’s passover,

1 Kings 18:46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah, and he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab, till they came to Jezrahel.

Eph 4:25 Wherefore put away lying, and speak every man truth unto his neighbor, forasmuch as we are members one of another.

John 4:24 God is a spirit, and they that worship him, must honour{worship} him, in spirit and verity.{truth, or real fidelity of truth}

Col 3:8-10 But now put ye also away from you all things, wrath, fierceness, maliciousness, cursed speaking, filthy speaking out of your mouths. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his works, {be put off} and have put on the new, which is renewed in knowledge, after the image of him that made him,

2 Th 2:10 For when we were with you, this we warned you of, that if there were any which would not work, that the same should not eat

The Breastplate of Righteousness

Phil 3:8-9 Yea I think all things but loss for that excellent knowledge’s sake of Christ Jesus my Lord. For whom I have counted all thing loss, and do judge them but dung, that I might win Christ, and might be found in him, not having mine own righteousness which is |commeth| of the law: But that which springeth of the faith which is in Christ. I mean |namely| the righteousness which cometh of God through |in| faith

Isa 59:16-17 He saw also, that there was no man, which had pity thereof, or was grieved at it. And he held him by his own power, and cleaved to his own righteousness. He put righteousness upon him for a breast plate, and set the helmet of health upon his head. He put on wrath in stead of clothing, and took jealousy about him for a cloak:

Ex 28:15And thou shalt make the breastlap of ensample {judgement} with broidered work: even after the work of the Ephod shalt thou make it: of gold, jacinth, scarlet, purple and twined byss shalt thou make it.

1Kgs 3:9 Give therefore unto thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, and to discern between good, and bad. For who is able to judge this thy so weighty a people?

Ps 94:15 And why? judgment shall be turned again unto righteousness, and all such as be true of heart shall follow it.

Pr 2:7-8 He preserveth the welfare of the righteous, and defendeth them that walk innocently: He keepeth them in the right path, and preserveth the way of his saints.

Standing on The Gospel

Eph 6:15 and shod with shoes prepared by the gospel {gospell} of peace

Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach except they be sent? As it is written: how beautiful are the feet of them which bring glad tidings of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things.

1 Cor 15:1-4 Brethren as pertaining to the gospel {gospell} which I preached unto you, which ye have also accepted, and in the which ye continue: |stand| by the which also ye are saved, I do you to wit after what manner I preached unto you, if ye keep it, except ye have believed in vain. For first of all I delivered unto you that which I received: how that Christ died for our sins, agreeing |according| to the scriptures: and that he was buried, and that he arose again the third day according to the scriptures:

1 Pet 2:11 Dearly beloved I beseech |beg eagerly for| you as strangers, and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which fight against the soul,

Gal 5:16-17 I say walk in the spirit, and fulfill not|and so shall ye not fulfill| the lusts of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth contrary to |against| the spirit, and the spirit contrary to |against| the flesh. These are contrary one to the other, so that ye cannot do that which ye would.

Rom 8:5-13 For they that are carnal, are carnally minded; and{But} they that are spiritual are ghostly minded. To be carnally minded is death; and{But} to be spiritually minded is life, and peace: because that the fleshly mind is enmity against God: For it is not obedient to|subdued unto| the law of God, neither can be. So then they that are given to the flesh, cannot please God. But ye are not given to the flesh; But to the spirit: If so be that the spirit of God dwell in you. If there be any man that hath not the spirit of Christ, the same is none of his. If Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin: But the spirit is life for righteousness’ sake. Wherefore if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from death, dwell in you: even he that raised up Christ from death, shall quicken your mortal bodies, be cause that his{this} spirit dwelleth in you. Therefore brethren we are now debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh: For if ye live after the flesh, ye must die. But if ye mortify the deeds of the body, by the help of the spirit, ye shall live, for as many as are led by the spirit of God, {:they} are the sons of God.

Isa 52:6-7 But that my people may know my name, I myself will speak in that day. Behold, here am I. O how beautiful are the feet of the Embassador, that bringeth the message from the mountain, and proclaimeth peace: That bringeth the good tidings, and preacheth health, and sayeth unto Zion: Thy God is the king.

The Helmet Of Salvation [Jesus]

Isa 59:16-17 He saw also, that there was no man, which had pity thereof, or was grieved at it. And he held him by his own power, and cleaved to his own righteousness. He put righteousness upon him for a breast plate, and set the helmet of health upon his head. He put on wrath in stead of clothing, and took jealousy about him for a cloak:

1 Th 5:8 But let us which are of the day be sober, armed with the breast plate of faith and love, and with hope of health, {salvation} as an helmet. |the helmet of hope to salvation|

Ps 140:7 O Lord GOD, |LORD God| thou strength of my health, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle

1 Cor 2:16 For who knoweth the mind of the Lord, other who shall inform him? but we understand the mind of Christ.

Phil 2:5 Let the same mind be in you the which {that} was in Christ Jesus:

1 Pet 4:1 For as much as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he which suffereth in the flesh ceaseth from sin,

2 Cor 10:3-5 Nevertheless though we walk compassed with the flesh, yet we war not fleshly. |fight we not after a fleshly manner| For the weapons of our war are not carnal things, |fleshly| but things mighty in God to cast down strongholds, wherewith we overthrow imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity all understanding to the obedience of Christ,

Eph 4:14-16 That we henceforth be no more children wavering and carried with every wind of doctrine, by the wiliness |wickedness| of men and craftiness, whereby they lay a wait for us to deceive us. But let us follow the truth in love, and in all things grow in him which is the head, that is to say Christ, in whom all the body is coupled and knit together, in every joint, wherewith one ministereth to another (according to the operation as every part |member| hath his measure) and increaseth the body, |maketh the body grow| unto the edifying of itself in love.

The Sword of The Spirit = The Word of God

Isa 49:2 The LORD hath called me from my birth, and made mention of my name from my mother’s womb: {Hearken ye isles unto me, and give heed ye people that are afar. The LORD called me out of the womb and made mention of my name, when I was in my mother’s bowels.} *he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword, under the shadow of his hand hath he defended me, and hid me in his quiver, as a good arrow,* {And he made my mouth like a sharp sword. In the shadow he led me with his hand. And he made me as an excellent arrow, and hid in his quiver.}

Heb 4:12-13 for the word of God is quick, and mighty in operation, and sharper than any two edged sword: and entereth through, even unto the dividing a sunder of the soul and the spirit and of the joints, and the marrow: and judgeth the thoughts and the intents of the heart.

2 Cor 6:7 in the words of truth, in the power of God, by the armour of righteousness of the right hand and on the left hand,

Ps 149:4-6 Keep me, O LORD, from the hand of the ungodly: preserve me from the wicked men, which are purposed to overthrow my goings. The proud have laid a snare for me, and spread a net abroad with cords, yea and set traps in my way. Selah. But my saying is unto the LORD: Thou art my God, hear the voice of my prayer, O LORD.

The Shield of Faith

Eph 6:16 Above all take to you the shield of faith, wherewith ye may quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Ps 35:1-3,9 ((Of David.)) Strive thou with them, O LORD, that strive with me, fight thou against them that fight against me. Lay hand upon the shield and spear, and stand up to help me. Draw out thy sword, and stop the way against them that persecute me, say unto my soul: I am thy help.

Ps 3:2-3 Let us break their bonds asunder, and cast away their yoke from us. Nevertheless he that dwelleth in heaven, shall laugh them to scorn: yea even the Lord himself shall have them in derision.

1 Pet 1:5 which are kept by the power of God through faith, unto health, which health {salvation, which salvation} is prepared all ready to be shewed in the last time,

Ps 33:20 Let our soul patiently abide the LORD, for he is our help and shield.

1 Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hand on eternal life, whereunto thou art called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

1 John 5:4-5 For all that is born of God, overcometh the world. And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Pr 30:5 All the words of God are pure and clean, for he is a shield unto all them that put their trust in him.

Be Strong In The Lord, By the Power of Grace

1 Cor 16:13 If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, the same be anathema maranatha. {anything devoted to evil, is cursed. this is vs.22} William Tyndale’s version

2 Tim 2:1 Thou therefore my son be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Eph 3:7 whereof I am made a minister, by the gift of the grace of God given unto me, after {through} the working of his power.

2 Cor 9:8 God is able to make you rich in all grace, that ye in all things having sufficient unto the utmost, may be rich unto all manner good works,

Phil 4:13 I can do all things through the help of Christ, which strengtheneth me.

The Battle is The Lord’s

1 Sam 17:47 And all this congregation shall know, that the LORD saveth not with the sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he shall give you into our hands.

Deut 20:2-4 And when ye are come nye unto battle, let the priest come forth and speak unto the people and say unto them: Hear Israel, ye are come unto battle against your enemies, let not your hearts faint, neither fear nor be amazed nor a dread of them. For the LORD thy God goeth with you to fight for you against your enemies and to save you.

Ps 18:32-35 It is God that hath girded me with strength, and made my way uncorrupt. He hath made my feet like hart’s feet, and set me up on high. He teacheth my hands to fight, and maketh mine arms to break even a bow of steel. Thou hast given me the defense of thy health, thy right hand upholdeth me, and thy loving correction maketh me great.

Zec 4:6 He answered, and said unto me: This is the word of the LORD unto Zorobabel, saying: Neither through an host of men, nor through strength, but through my spirit, sayeth the LORD of Hosts.

Rom 11:36 For of him, and through him, and unto {for} him are all things. To him be glory |praise| forever Amen.

For this cause I bow my knees unto the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is father |the true father| over all that is called father In heaven and in earth, that he would grant you according to the riches of his glory, that ye may be strengthened with might by his spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, that ye being rooted and grounded in love, might be able to comprehend with all saints, what is that breadth and length, depth and height: and to know what is the love of Christ, which love passeth knowledge: that ye might be fulfilled with all manner of fullness which cometh of God. Unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly, above all that we ask or think, |understand| according to the power that worketh in us, be praise in the congregation by |which is in| Jesus Christ, through out all generations from time to time. |at all times for ever and ever| Amen.

“the commandments are not given inappropriately or pointlessly; but in order that through them the proud, blind man may learn the plague of his impotence, should he try to do as he is commanded.”

Thank you for the comment. And I see the Hebraic name of Jesus, and I understand this. The Name of God’s Son, very interesting. What really matters though is what your heart desires and feels, words are man’s code nothing more, your heart expresses the Spiritual side of your intentions. Nothing else really matters.
May God’s loving peace and will be with you always.
